William and Kate Likely to Encourage Prince Louis to Pursue University and a Meaningful Future Beyond Royal Life

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s approach to raising their two younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, has been highlighted by royal experts, who believe the couple is preparing them for meaningful futures outside the immediate royal spotlight, as Prince George takes on more royal responsibilities.

Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond offered insights into the potential paths that Charlotte and Louis might take as they grow older. In an interview with OK! Magazine, Bond emphasized how Prince William and Kate are keenly aware of the challenges that come with being a “royal spare”—a term used to describe younger siblings of heirs to the throne.

“They have already shown that they have a different and modern attitude to bringing up royal children,” Bond explained, noting that William and Kate are likely to ensure that Charlotte and Louis feel just as special and valued as George, despite their different roles in the royal family.

Bond further speculated on Prince Louis’ potential future, stating, “I imagine they will encourage Louis to explore life outside the royal fold… it could be the military, but it could also be working in the charity world or whatever he finds appealing after his education is finished.” She suggested that William and Kate are open to letting their younger children pursue their own interests and passions, providing them with the flexibility to choose paths that suit them.

Education is also expected to play a key role in their future. Bond believes that William and Kate will encourage both Charlotte and Louis to attend university, a path the couple themselves enjoyed. “I’m sure they will encourage him to go to university… and from there, they will want him to find a life that is meaningful to him, as well as appropriate for the son of a future King,” she added.

Ultimately, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are likely to prioritize helping their children find fulfilling lives, irrespective of their position in the line of succession. Bond concluded by saying, “They will try to ensure that Louis feels he is living a life of value, irrespective of his place in the line of succession, and that will probably involve service of some kind. They have emphasized from the start that they want their children to understand that having empathy with others is not only a kindness but is rewarding as well.”

This modern, flexible approach to parenting signals that Prince William and Kate are preparing their younger children for lives that balance both personal fulfillment and service to others while allowing them to explore their own paths outside the traditional royal mold.
