UK Weather: Brits to Face ‘Heavy Rain’ in Days as Unsettled Conditions Return After Glorious 23C Sunshine
0After a weekend of sunshine and reasonably high temperatures across the UK, Brits have been told to expect a return to business as usual with rainy showers set to make a comeback this week.
Following a weekend where people across the country flocked to the beach or headed outside to soak up the rays with temperatures as high as 23C, the Met Office predicts a shift back to “unsettled” conditions. Rain showers are expected to hit the country for around two days between Tuesday and Thursday this week.
Temperatures will drop slightly to around 18C, but it will feel chillier due to 40mph gusts across the UK. A spokesman for the Met Office explained: “Turning unsettled with showers and a risk of more organized and heavy rain, with strong winds in eastern areas by mid-week. Still some dry and warm, sunnier interludes at times”, via The Sun.
The sunny spell currently being experienced is expected to stay for most of today, with a Met Office expert explaining: “Sunday is a fine day with plenty of warm sunshine. Cooler under cloudier skies in the northeast. Monday will bring lots of warm sunshine with low cloud lingering in the northeast where it’ll be cooler.”
On Saturday, parts of the UK were issued with weather warnings ahead of predicted thunderstorms. These thunderstorms were expected to last up to seven hours and cause flooding and major travel chaos. Residents in the South West, parts of Wales, and the Midlands experienced foul weather this weekend.
Speaking previously, a Met Office spokesman said: “While not all places will see them, slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to some flooding and disruption in places.” The alert warned that scattered, slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms would develop, with the potential to cause flash flooding and spray on roads.
In some areas, up to 20-30mm of rain was expected in an hour or two, with a small chance that repeated shower development could result in a few places seeing 40-50mm. The warning covered areas including Swansea, Cardiff, Bath, Exeter, and Plymouth, and was in place from 1 pm until 8 pm. Any showers and thunderstorms gradually faded during Saturday evening.
As the week progresses, the UK will see a mix of weather conditions. While the temperatures will be cooler, there will still be periods of sunshine interspersed with heavy rain and strong winds, particularly in eastern areas. Brits are advised to keep an eye on weather updates and be prepared for the changing conditions.
