Family Awaits Answers as Inquest into Tragic Death of Mum-of-Three Delayed

Demi Agoglia, a 26-year-old mother of three, tragically lost her life in Turkey after undergoing a “Brazilian bum-lift” at a clinic. The Manchester Evening News reports that Demi lost consciousness and was rushed to Istanbul Hospital, where she died on January 8.

Following her death, social media was flooded with tributes to Demi, from Little Hulton, Salford, and a fundraising page was set up for her three sons. Her sister Georgina shared a heartfelt tribute video on TikTok, expressing her grief: “I lost my sister yesterday. I miss you so much, Demi. Nothing feels real anymore. How can you be gone? Just wanna hear you shout alright Rkid. Nothing will ever be the same without you. I love you Demi x.”

The family is still waiting for answers as an inquest into Demi’s death has been delayed due to insufficient evidence. During a hearing at Bolton Coroner’s Court on Wednesday (July 17), coroner John Pollard cited “missing information” that is needed to determine the exact circumstances of Demi’s death.

Mr. Pollard expressed his frustration: “When something like this happens abroad it is a hundred times more difficult to deal with than if it happened in this country. I haven’t got the information I need, that’s bluntly the situation.” He mentioned contacting the Foreign Office and planning to write directly to Istanbul Hospital to obtain statements from the surgeon, nurses, and paramedics involved in Demi’s care.

Chrissie Wolfe, representing Demi’s family, noted the challenges in obtaining information from Turkey due to different legal regulations. She mentioned enlisting the help of a Turkish lawyer to acquire statements and Demi’s medical records. Ms. Wolfe highlighted the high-risk nature of the procedure and the complications that may not always be evident in post-mortem examinations, adding that the surgery carries a risk of death at least “10 times higher” than many other cosmetic procedures.

In September, a senior coroner wrote to the Health Secretary after another British woman, Melissa Kerr, died following a “Brazilian butt lift” in Turkey. Melissa, 31, died at the Medicana Kadikoy hospital on November 19, 2019, after undergoing the same procedure. The coroner emphasized the need for greater awareness of the risks associated with overseas cosmetic surgeries.

A ‘Brazilian butt lift’ involves removing fat from one part of the body and injecting it into the buttocks. According to the NHS, the procedure has a significantly higher risk of mortality due to the potential for fat embolism in the lungs. The inquest into Demi Agoglia’s death has been rescheduled for November 5, as the family continues to seek answers and justice for their beloved daughter and sister.
