Meghan Markle’s ‘Saturday mornings’ with dad Thomas Markle laid bare

Before her life as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle often shared personal stories on her blog, The Tig. In a heartfelt Father’s Day post, Meghan fondly reminisced about her close bond with her father, Thomas Markle.

In the 2014 blog post, Meghan detailed a cherished tradition with her father: “Our club sandwich and fruit smoothie tradition post my tap and ballet class – classes, which by the way, he religiously took me to on Saturday mornings after working 75+ hours a week as a lighting director.”

She continued her emotional tribute: “To my dad – my thoughtful, inspiring, hardworking Daddy – Happy Father’s Day. ‘If I had all the water in the world, I’d give all the water to you…’ (You won’t get that quote, but he will. And for Father’s Day, that’s all that matters).”

Meghan ended her blogging journey just months before marrying Prince Harry, with her final post published in 2017. In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the significant decision to leave the Royal Family, relocating to California with their son, Prince Archie. The couple later accused the Royal Family of racism towards their son and aired their grievances publicly. Since settling in the United States, they have welcomed a daughter, Princess Lilibet.

Meghan’s reflections on her relationship with her father offer a glimpse into a once-close bond that has since become strained, highlighting the complex dynamics of her personal and public life. Despite the current estrangement, her words from The Tig reveal a deep appreciation for the support and love her father provided during her formative years.
