Texas father shoots and kills his 23-year-old daughter after argument over Trump
A British father who fatally shot his 23-year-old daughter at his Texas home has spoken of his “deep and daily remorse,” telling an inquest: “I am deeply sorry for the pain others feel from this tragedy.”
Kris Harrison, originally from Warrington, accidentally shot Lucy Harrison at “medium range” as he showed her a Glock 9mm handgun kept in his bedside cabinet for what he described as a “sense of security.” The Manchester Metropolitan University graduate, who worked for fashion retailer Boohoo, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
In a statement released through his legal representatives and read at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, Harrison said: “I fully accept the consequences of my actions, and there isn’t a day I don’t feel the weight of that loss – a weight I will carry for the rest of my life, and I know that nothing I say can ease the heartbreak this tragedy has caused.”

He continued: “I cannot undo what happened, but I can honour Lucy by being the best father I can be to her sisters and by carrying her memory forward in everything we do. Lucy’s spirit, her warmth, her humour, her kindness – will live on in all of us who loved her.”
The inquest heard that Lucy and her boyfriend, Sam Littler, had arrived at Harrison’s home in Prosper, Texas, on December 28, 2024, after flying from Heathrow. The shooting occurred on January 10, 2025, as they prepared to return to the UK.
Harrison, who was not present at the inquest, stated that he and Lucy had been watching a television report about gun crime when he mentioned owning a firearm and asked if she wanted to see it. He claimed he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger when removing the weapon from its case.
“As I lifted the gun to show her, I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell,” he said, according to the Guardian.
The father admitted he had “briefly lapsed” in his struggle with alcohol on the day of the incident, consuming 500ml of white wine over two to three hours due to emotional distress over Lucy’s departure. It was alleged he had initially lied about drinking.

Medical reports confirmed Lucy had no alcohol or drugs in her system. Sam Littler told the inquest that a significant political argument had occurred that morning. “It was during the time Trump had been inaugurated, off the back of that, Kris and Lucy had a big argument, and it led to Lucy running upstairs, upset,” he recalled.
A Texas jury declined to prosecute Harrison on June 10, 2024. Under Texas law, when a grand jury chooses not to indict, the person investigated by police is not publicly named.
Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as a “real force of life” who was passionate and unafraid of difficult conversations. “She cared. She was passionate about things. She loved to have debates about things that meant a lot to her,” she said.
