Teenager Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Mother’s Tragic Death

A tragic incident unfolded in Warrington as a teenager admitted to killing his mother with a claw hammer. Frederico Canuzo, 18, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, January 27, where he entered a guilty plea to the manslaughter of his mother, Chintzia McIntyre, 48.

Chintzia McIntyre lost her life on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, after a brutal attack outside her home in Phoenix Place, Great Sankey. Police received emergency reports at approximately 9:40 a.m., responding swiftly to the scene where they pronounced Chintzia dead. Investigations revealed she had suffered at least 29 blows to the head with a claw hammer, leading to her untimely death, reported by the Mirror.

The horrifying assault was captured on video by Chintzia’s video doorbell, alerting her husband, who was away working in another part of the country. The footage showed Canuzo attacking Chintzia before fleeing the scene. Authorities quickly acted upon receiving the video evidence, leading to Canuzo boarding a train bound for London Euston. British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police were notified and successfully arrested him upon his arrival at the platform in London.

Transported back to Cheshire, Canuzo was charged with murder on August 30. However, during today’s court appearance, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. The prosecution accepted his plea based on medical evidence, recognizing the mitigating factors that influenced his actions.

Judge Robert Altham, the Honorary Recorder of Preston, addressed the court, condemning Canuzo for his relentless abuse. He stated, “You repeatedly assaulted and abused her. You would hit her again and again. In the messages, she pleaded with you to stop. Knowing her previous suicide attempts and fragile mental health, you repeatedly told her she may as well kill herself.” Altham emphasized how Canuzo’s actions made Chintzia feel “worthless” and led her to believe she was an “unfit mother,” ultimately contributing to her tragic decision to end her life.

Despite the court’s findings, Canuzo’s mother, Lisa Green, publicly defended her son outside the courtroom. In a heartfelt TikTok video, she described Kiena Dawes, the victim, as “a very poorly girl,” expressing sympathy for the deceased while standing by her son’s side. “He is very sad about it,” Green stated, further adding, “She was a very poor girl.”

The community in Warrington is grappling with the devastating loss of Chintzia McIntyre, who was a beloved member of the neighborhood. Friends and neighbors mourn her passing, struggling to comprehend the severity of the violence inflicted upon her. The incident has left an indelible mark on those who knew her, highlighting the profound impact of domestic abuse and the urgent need for effective intervention and support systems.

Detective Inspector Eli Atkinson, leading the investigation, conveyed his condolences to the family and emphasized the traumatic nature of the case. “This was an exceptionally traumatic incident for all those involved, especially Chintzia’s family and neighbors and emergency services who tried to help her. While nothing can ever be done to bring Chintzia back, I do hope that the conclusion of this case will bring her family some closure. Our thoughts remain with Chintzia’s friends and family at this time, and we would like to thank them for their assistance throughout our investigation,” Atkinson remarked.

Frederico Canuzo remains in custody, awaiting his sentencing scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, at Liverpool Crown Court. The guilty plea to manslaughter reflects the court’s recognition of the complex factors surrounding the case, including Canuzo’s mental state and the abusive dynamics within the family.

This heartbreaking case underscores the critical importance of mental health support and effective measures to prevent domestic violence. As the community seeks closure, the focus remains on supporting Chintzia McIntyre’s family and ensuring that justice is served appropriately.
