Susanna Reid’s Health Transformation After Doctor’s Warning Inspires Fans
0Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid recently shared her inspiring health journey, prompted by a wake-up call from her doctor, according to the Daily Record. The 53-year-old presenter, who had struggled with weight gain and skin issues during the Covid lockdowns, was advised by her GP to make some lifestyle changes after her BMI approached an unhealthy range. Determined to turn things around, Reid managed to lose a stone and a half without stepping into a gym, transforming her habits and revitalizing her well-being.
The mother of three, who has a demanding schedule with her early-morning show, explained how she made adjustments to her routine to achieve her health goals. Speaking on Good Morning Britain in December 2018, she told former co-host Piers Morgan, “I stopped going to the gym, I found it made me too hungry. I’ve levelled out, I lost a stone-and-a-half, and that’s enough, and I don’t go to the gym.” She found that skipping the gym helped curb her hunger, a unique approach that worked well for her.
Another crucial change was cutting out snacks from her daily schedule, a shift that Reid says has left her feeling “fantastic.” In an interview with Prima magazine, she admitted that before making these changes, “I have to admit, I’d been feeling a little heavy for a while.” The early 4 a.m. wake-ups demanded by her job had often left her with cravings, leading her to reach for snacks that contributed to weight gain. She described how the unusual hours created an “energy deficit,” explaining to Lorraine Kelly, “All your body can think is ‘have toast, have biscuits, have calories,’ and you can pile [weight] on really quickly”, reports Gloucestershire Live.
Reid’s lifestyle overhaul didn’t stop at diet and exercise. She has been following a pescatarian diet and, notably, quit drinking in 2019 after her doctor advised her that alcohol was affecting her skin. In an interview with The Times, she shared, “I’m rather glad I’ve given up drink because lockdown drinking, the pandemic prosecco, has been a serious issue. I gave up because a doctor told me to.” Her decision to quit drinking stemmed from persistent skin problems, including flushing, flare-ups, and blemishes, which she found improved after removing alcohol from her life.
Since making this change, Reid has stayed alcohol-free, even opting out of drinks on her 50th birthday. Her commitment led to her being humorously labeled “the world’s biggest bore” by her friend and former co-host, Piers Morgan. Reid’s health journey reflects her dedication to well-being, inspiring many with her disciplined approach to self-care and balance.
