Outrage as Lucy Letby Fans Throw Disturbing Pub Party for Baby Killer’s Birthday and Share Photos Online

Supporters of convicted baby serial killer Lucy Letby gathered to mark her birthday at a local pub, sparking widespread criticism and outrage. The former nurse, who was sentenced to over six years in prison on January 4, spent her 35th birthday behind bars after being found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill seven others in a neonatal unit.

The gathering took place at The Windmill pub on Clapham Common, London, and included six attendees who connected through the Facebook group ‘Lucy Letby Discussions.’ The event featured glasses of prosecco, homemade banners, and a giant ‘Lucy’ cake, as reported by local media, reported by the Sun.

In a closed Facebook group, members advocate for Letby’s innocence, arguing that she should be freed. Photos from the event showed four participants holding banners reading ‘happy birthday Lucy’ and ‘a blatant miscarriage of justice.’ The group also shared images of the reserved table under the name ‘Lucy’ and enjoyed drinks together.

A friend of a parent whose premature baby daughter was killed by Letby criticized the gathering, stating, “There are families who will never get to celebrate their children’s birthdays. What’s next, do we have celebrations for Myra Hindley and Ian Brady?”

One attendee, using the pseudonym Lulu Tee, 45, a carer from south London, defended the event, saying, “It was just a meetup of people from the groups. We wanted to get together to toast her birthday and speak about the case. The organiser sorted a cake and a few banners to outline that it was a miscarriage of justice.” She added, “There was a plan to sing happy birthday and record a message for her saying we’re thinking of her and feel it’s unfair she isn’t able to celebrate the things she should be celebrating, if she’s innocent. Meanwhile, the people who are at fault are not in prison.”

Ahead of the event, one of the organisers posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Today is Lucy Letby’s birthday. Sadly she is in prison for crimes she didn’t commit. She won’t be able to celebrate her birthday and will be without her family and friends. Myself and a group of friends will be meeting up to toast her birthday and send her and her family comforting thoughts. Hopefully, this will be the last birthday she spends in prison.”

When questioned, a user responded, “Do you show the same compassion to the families of the babies she murdered?” The woman replied, “I have an enormous amount of sympathy for them, I just don’t think their babies were murdered. The families have been lied to and need to know the truth so that they can find peace.”

The meet-up’s Facebook page featured a post stating, “A lovely afternoon and evening spent thinking of Lucy on her birthday,” accompanied by supportive comments like “Aww, that is so nice” and “how lovely.” The organiser further explained, “I was closely following the trial and I read the discussions on X, as I have twins who were born two months premature, and I felt very emotionally involved. I originally took for granted that everything said about Lucy was true. But I saw the people that thought she was innocent had much stronger arguments than the guilty side did.

I even spoke to a professor and legal experts and her barrister about it, and I came to my own conclusion that she was innocent. The state of the unit she was on is horrendous and there’s deadly bacteria on the unit, and it was understaffed. I believe Lucy was made a scapegoat. It’s been portrayed through the press that we’re a bunch of conspiracy theorists, stay-at-home mums and men who only have interests in Lucy’s appearance, but its a huge group of professional people who feel this way.”

In response, The Windmill pub’s owner, Youngs, stated, “We are not aligned to this group of individuals in any way. A small birthday gathering was booked in to dine at the Windmill on January 4th. We were not aware of the details of the occasion other than it being a ‘birthday’. The guests did not make the team aware of the reason for their visit and the banner supporting their cause was not on display whilst any of our team or other customers were in attendance.”

The controversial celebration highlights the ongoing division and emotional turmoil surrounding Lucy Letby’s case, with strong opinions on both sides fueling the debate.
