Tensions Rise on BBC Breakfast as Naga Munchetty Snaps at Co-Host Charlie Stayt During Fly Infestation Segment

Tensions flared in the BBC Breakfast studio this week when Naga Munchetty appeared to snap at her co-presenter Charlie Stayt during a segment discussing a fly infestation in Wales. The exchange began lightheartedly but quickly became awkward after Munchetty questioned Stayt’s reaction to a story about the swarm.

The pair started the segment by discussing the severe fly problem that had left residents in a South Wales village unable to open their windows or eat in peace. Naga introduced the story, saying, “Residents of a village in South Wales say they’ve been inundated by a mysterious swarm of flies.” Charlie added context, noting, “People living in Bettws near Bridgend say they can’t open their windows or eat lunch in peace because of the insects.”

The situation escalated when they turned to a report by Wales correspondent Hywel Griffith, who detailed the grim reality faced by locals. According to Hywel, one family caught 205 flies in just 45 minutes, and a pub owner had stopped serving food due to the infestation. Some families were even eating under mosquito nets to avoid the swarm, as per reports Manchester Evening News.

As images of dead flies being swept up by a broom flashed on the screen, Charlie audibly reacted with disgust, saying, “Urgh.” This prompted Naga to pointedly ask, “Has that bothered you?”

Charlie, clearly uncomfortable, responded weakly, “A bit like that, isn’t it? Urgh,” leading Naga to laugh, though the mood in the studio became noticeably tense. Charlie quickly shifted to weather presenter Simon King, asking for his thoughts on the situation: “What do you think, Simon? Don’t want flies coming in, do we?”

Naga interjected, asking if the cold weather had impacted the fly population: “But it’s been really cold. I thought there were fewer flies when it’s really cold?” Simon, admitting he wasn’t an expert on flies, replied, “I’m not an expert on flies,” which drew a less-than-impressed reaction from Naga.

The segment moved forward as Charlie refocused on the weather, asking Simon for the forecast. Naga, seemingly eager to move on, excitedly pointed out the aurora borealis visible behind him, exclaiming, “Aurora borealis!”

Viewers at home had mixed reactions to the segment, with one disgruntled user on X (formerly Twitter) commenting, “Thanks @BBCBreakfast, flies for breakfast!” Another viewer shared their own experience with a similar fly invasion, saying, “We had the same issue in the Midlands a few weeks back. Opened the kitchen window, and within minutes, about 30 flies came in.”
