48-Hour Snowstorm Set to Slam the UK
0
The UK could face more snowfall at the end of January, forecasters are warning.
WX Charts has predicted that a snowstorm could blanket parts of the UK for 48 hours, starting from midnight on January 28 and lasting until midnight on January 30, with the heaviest snowstorm expected on January 29.
The Scottish Highlands, including Inverness and nearby areas, are set to be hit hardest by the cold front, with treacherous weather making travel risky. The Central Belt near Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders may also experience some of the snow.
Northern England and Northern Ireland are also in the firing line, with patches of snowfall expected to affect those areas as well.
While the Met Office typically avoids making long-range snow predictions due to their often unreliable nature, they have admitted that there’s a “small chance” that cold air could sweep in, bringing “snow showers” to certain regions.
However, snowfall is unlikely for most of England and all of Wales. Heavy rain is predicted to occur in parts of southern Britain, especially in the western regions.
So, while the white stuff may be arriving for some, others will be bracing for rainy, soggy days ahead.
What’s the Plan for Friday?
On Friday, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cloudy, windy, and mild, with rain mostly affecting western hills. Meanwhile, England and Wales can expect a dry but often overcast day, leaving many longing for sunshine.
Weekend Outlook: Cloudy with a Chance of Everything
From Saturday through Monday, the weather isn’t looking much brighter. Rain and gusty winds are on the cards for the northwest, while central and southern England, along with parts of Wales, will experience stubborn clouds, hill fog, and occasional drizzle. There’s a glimmer of hope for brighter spells in some areas, but it’s not guaranteed. It’ll be a mix of mild temperatures in the north and cooler conditions down south.
So, whether you’re braving the snow in the Highlands or dodging the rain in southern Britain, it’s time to bundle up and keep an umbrella handy. Winter might not be in full swing just yet, but it’s certainly making its intentions clear!
