‘SNL’ writer asks public for help finding missing sister
A search is continuing in Los Angeles for Christina Lynn Downer, the sister of a writer for Saturday Night Live, who disappeared nearly four weeks ago under circumstances her family says are deeply out of character. Downer, 38, was last known to be in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles on December 10 and has not been seen since.
Her brother, Jimmy Fowlie, said on social media that he last heard from her on November 26. He added that she remained active on social media until December 15, making her sudden disappearance all the more alarming. “This is not like her,” Fowlie wrote in an Instagram post last week. “She’s never gone off the grid like this.”
Fowlie also shared that his sister is extremely attached to her miniature pinscher, Rex, and believes the dog is likely with her. He noted that Downer may also go by the name Christina Fowlie. An Instagram account believed to belong to her posted a final message on December 14, accompanied by a photo. The caption read, “Living life in peace. If you wanna send me a Christmas treat, I’ll be waiting. Happy holidays, everyone.”
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on Monday that the case remains active. Police told SFGATE there are no new updates at this time and that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities say Downer has no known medical conditions and no history of going missing.
She is described as 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 115 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Fowlie joined the “Saturday Night Live” writers’ room in 2022. Before that, he performed with the Groundlings sketch troupe and appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
After he appealed publicly for help locating his sister, several figures from the comedy world expressed their support. “SNL” cast members Kenan Thompson and Chloe Fineman shared his posts, as did Hannah Einbinder and other entertainers.
Family members and supporters continue to urge anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who may have seen Downer or has details about her whereabouts is asked to contact the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit at 213-996-1800.
