Ruth Langsford has suggested that she and her estranged husband, Eamonn Holmes, may never be friends after calling time on their marriage. The former couple, both 64, shocked the entertainment world in May when news broke of their impending divorce following months of reported disputes.
Since her return to Loose Women after a lengthy break, Ruth has largely kept quiet about their split. However, during a recent episode, she seemed to dash any hopes of a future friendship with Eamonn during a candid on-air conversation.
While speaking to singer Sinitta, who remains close friends with her ex, Simon Cowell, Ruth commented, “You’ve had a relationship with someone and you’ve remained friends, which is amazing because a lot of people can’t.” This remark sparked speculation about Ruth’s own stance on maintaining a friendship with Eamonn post-divorce, told the Mirror.
Ruth has previously expressed her views on whether ex-partners can stay friends. During a 2018 episode of This Morning that she co-hosted with Eamonn, she stated that once a relationship has ended, there’s little point in staying in touch. Eamonn, on the other hand, has expressed hope for a future friendship with Ruth, although he admitted to Best magazine that it was “too soon to tell.”
This comes amid reports that Ruth discovered messages between Eamonn and another woman on a laptop, which reportedly left her feeling “hurt.” The woman in question, 42-year-old relationship counselor Katie Alexander, has been a source of comfort for Eamonn in recent years, sparking further tension between the former couple.
Katie’s ex-husband, George, has since offered his sympathy to Ruth, recalling his own heartbreak when his marriage ended. Speaking to The Sun, he said, “She’s going through what I did after our marriage ended,” adding that it took him years to recover. George also revealed that Katie and Eamonn began communicating on social media while they were still together but as friends. He expressed surprise at discovering the pair were “regularly” meeting up after his own divorce in 2022.
The situation took a more awkward turn when false reports of an engagement between Eamonn and Katie surfaced. After Katie was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger, rumors began to circulate, though sources later confirmed the engagement claims to be untrue. Despite this, Ruth was reportedly “embarrassed” and “upset” by the situation, with a source noting that “there have been tears.”
As things stand, the likelihood of Ruth and Eamonn remaining friends seems uncertain, with both sides grappling with the fallout from their very public separation.
