“Too Much Water Under the Bridge”: Royal Expert Doubts Reconciliation Between Harry, Meghan, and the Waleses

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have created rifts so deep that reconciliation with Prince William and Princess Kate may be impossible, one royal expert suggests. Charles Rae, a renowned former royal correspondent, recently appeared on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show to discuss the tense state of the relationship between the royal brothers. When asked who should take the first step towards reconciliation—Harry and Meghan or William and Kate—Rae shared his thoughts: “Well, I think it is down to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to make the first move.”

He continued, “Whether or not it would be accepted by William and Catherine, I doubt very much it would be. There’s too much water which has gone under that bridge. After everything Harry and Meghan have done with the Oprah Winfrey interview, that Netflix show… Spare. The flamboyant curtsey by Meghan on the show as well. There’s too much gone under the bridge now. If they’re going to make the move, I am not so sure William and Catherine would respond favourably”, told the Mirror.

Over the past few years, the Prince of Wales has endured multiple hardships, including the loss of his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. His father, King Charles, and his wife, Princess Kate, have both faced cancer diagnoses, adding to the strain. William’s relationship with Harry has been particularly challenging, marked by several difficult moments and public disagreements.

One of the most significant instances occurred on September 8, 2022, when the late Queen passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at the age of 96. She was surrounded by her children, Princess Anne and King Charles. Prince William, alongside Edward, Andrew, and Sophie Wessex, hurried to be by her side, while Prince Harry traveled separately. There were early reports that Meghan would accompany Harry on the journey to Balmoral, but he ultimately arrived alone. According to The Mail, Meghan’s change of plans was influenced by Kate, leading her to decide not to join Harry.

The royal expert’s analysis highlights the depth of the rift between the two sides, suggesting that while an olive branch from the Sussexes might be necessary, it is unlikely that William and Kate would be open to it given the events of the past few years.
