Rose Hanbury’s Legal Action Against Stephen Colbert Over ‘Prince William Affair’ Jokes

Late-night host Stephen Colbert finds himself facing legal repercussions after making jests about Rose Hanbury amid swirling rumors of an alleged affair with Prince William. Hanbury’s legal representatives have taken action, sending notices to Colbert and other media outlets to refute the claims made on his show, In Touch has learned exclusively.

In a formal statement to In Touch, Hanbury’s lawyers emphasized, “The rumor has unfortunately gained traction in the mainstream media, including recent jokes made on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. We have issued correspondence on behalf of our client to CBS and several other reputable media organizations to clarify that these allegations are baseless.”

The uproar stemmed from Colbert’s remarks during the March 12 episode of his show, where he quipped about the alleged infidelity, remarking on the absence of Kate Middleton and alluding to Prince William’s purported involvement. The host’s comments, including playful jabs at Hanbury’s title, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, fueled further speculation.

Hanbury, 40, who holds the official title of the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, had previously denounced the rumors in a statement to Business Insider on March 16, categorically stating, “The rumors are completely false.”

The timing of Colbert’s jests coincided with Princess Kate’s absence from the public eye, attributed to her scheduled abdominal surgery in January. Despite her prolonged absence, the royal family assured the public of her steady recovery, expressing gratitude for the well-wishes received.

While Kate’s absence prompted rumors and innuendos, Hanbury’s legal action underscores the serious implications of spreading unfounded claims in the public domain. With both Hanbury and the royal family pushing back against the gossip, the focus shifts to maintaining the integrity of public discourse amidst sensationalist speculation.

As the legal saga unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the responsibility media personalities hold in disseminating information, especially when it pertains to sensitive matters involving public figures. In a world where rumors can spread like wildfire, Hanbury’s stance highlights the importance of accuracy and accountability in journalism and entertainment.
