Queen Elizabeth tried to cushion ex-Prince Andrew’s title loss before private meeting was scrapped

It has long been known that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was Queen Elizabeth’s favorite child. Even when his link with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sexual offender, came to light, the late Queen was unwilling to demote her son in the Royal Family. He highlighted Queen Elizabeth’s response when the former Duke of York was accused of sexual assault in his new book,

The Windsor Legacy, which was written by Robert Jobson, a journalist and author who specializes in royal history. Jobson said that “public outrage exploded” as a result of the allegations made against Andrew by the late Virginia Giuffre and the subsequent Newsnight interview he gave in 2019.

He also stated that King Charles, who was then known as Prince Charles, was the one who made “urgent” calls to his mother and “insisted that Andrew had to be cut adrift.”” Queen Elizabeth, for her part, “moved rapidly to defend the monarchy,” as Jobson noted, but found imparting the news to Andrew to be “painful.” “According to Jobson’s writing, “The two senior courtiers told The Queen that it was imperative that they witnessed the conversation.”

Jobson also said that Sir Edward Young, the private secretary of the late Queen, and Sir Michael Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, were present at the meeting.”It is understandable that Andrew felt as though he had been taken by surprise, despite the fact that this was not at all what she intended,” Jobson pointed out, characterizing the encounter as “a painful moment for both mother and son.”

Queen Elizabeth “stood by him, loyal to the end,” as the author put it, despite the fact that Andrew was compelled to stand down from his position as a senior working royal. She went so far as to urge him to accompany her to a church ceremony in 2022 celebrating the life of the late Prince Philip, despite the fact that the former duke was not often seen in public at the time. According to reports, she told a friend, “You have to keep in mind that he is my son.”

It was determined that Andrew’s royal patronages and military titles would be removed, and, in an effort to “soften the blow,” Queen Elizabeth arranged a private one-to-one meeting with her son, according to the author. This was done at the time that the decision was being made. On the other hand, top members of the palace staff intervened and “insisted on being there.”
