Camilla’s aide reveals Queen’s ‘anxieties’ over King Charles’ cancer

Queen Camilla maintained a poised public image while privately carrying the emotional burden of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, a royal aide revealed. Speaking to Newsweek, the aide shared how Camilla balanced her public responsibilities while providing unwavering support to her husband following his diagnosis in early 2024.

“It was exhausting,” the aide admitted in an interview published Wednesday, March 12. “It would have been draining for a woman half her age.” The source recalled Camilla’s visit to a London cancer center on January 31—just days before Buckingham Palace publicly announced the king’s illness.

At the time, Camilla was aware of Charles’ diagnosis but had to maintain composure in the public eye. “She had to undertake public duties… and yet not be able to show the slightest flicker of vulnerability,” the aide explained, calling her resilience “astonishing.”

Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles’ diagnosis on February 5, revealing that doctors discovered a “form of cancer” following a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Despite undergoing treatment, the king has continued to fulfill his royal engagements, including a diplomatic trip to Poland in January.

He and Camilla are also set to visit Italy in April. Meanwhile, in March, Princess Kate Middleton revealed her own battle with cancer after undergoing abdominal surgery earlier in the year. While Kate has since shared that she is in remission, Charles remains in treatment. “It was astonishing how she balanced both of those roles alongside her own private anxieties, in particular during the first period of about a week or 10 days,” an aide said.

However, according to royal insiders, he has no intention of stepping back from his duties, reaffirming his commitment to the monarchy. As the royal family faces these health challenges, Camilla’s unwavering presence underscores her role as both a devoted spouse and a steadfast public figure.
