Queen Camilla Alarmed as King Charles Abruptly Cancels Major Royal Plans

Royal watchers are raising fresh concerns about King Charles III’s health after the monarch abruptly canceled not one, but two cherished holiday plans—including his “favourite” annual walking retreat in Romania.
The King, who is undergoing treatment following his cancer diagnosis announced in February last year, was reportedly forced to pull out of the vacations due to the physical toll of his ongoing health battle. While Buckingham Palace has downplayed his condition, describing a recent hospital admission as a “minor bump in the road,” the scrapping of these travel plans is sparking anxiety among royal insiders and the public alike.
According to The Sun, King Charles was due to embark on his annual springtime walking holiday in Romania alongside Queen Camilla—a tradition he holds dear. Additionally, he had penciled in a rejuvenating visit to an African spa retreat. But both have now been called off as he continues to recuperate.
“Charles is a hardworking King, but he needs and deserves occasional time off,” a royal source revealed. “It was unfortunate that he couldn’t fly with Camilla, as it was hoped they could have a well-earned break together.”
Instead, the King has returned to Clarence House to convalesce. He was seen in relatively good spirits on Friday, despite the disappointing change in plans. Still, insiders hint that the real reason behind the cancellations is more serious than the Palace is letting on.
Camilla, who is no stranger to the therapeutic power of travel—having enjoyed a brief solo getaway to India following their tour of Australia and Samoa last year—is said to be “upset and worried” about her husband’s condition.
“He adores Romania and looks forward to visiting every year, but it would have involved just too much walking and he can’t face it right now,” the source added.
The Romanian countryside, known for its serene landscapes and spiritual charm, has long been a sanctuary for Charles. His annual visits are more than a holiday—they’re a ritual, a grounding retreat from the demands of royal duty. His inability to make the journey this year underscores the seriousness of his current health challenges.
Despite the Palace’s attempt to reassure the public, the back-to-back cancellations have ignited fears that Charles may be struggling more than previously acknowledged. The 75-year-old monarch has continued to work through his illness, which has been both admired and questioned by royal commentators.
With no word yet on when—or if—these trips will be rescheduled, attention now turns to how King Charles will manage his royal responsibilities while navigating a potentially long and taxing treatment process.
As the King steps back from his personal traditions, many are left wondering: if he’s giving up the one holiday he looks forward to every year, what does that really say about his current state of health?
