Prince Harry’s Netflix Project Leaves Executives ‘Hugely Disappointed’

Prince Harry’s latest decisions regarding his Netflix projects have reportedly left some insiders feeling let down. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a high-profile deal with the streaming giant in 2020 after stepping back from their royal duties, but sources claim that their recent efforts have fallen short of expectations.

After the massive success of their debut series Harry & Meghan, which broke records following its release in December 2022, the couple has yet to deliver another collaborative hit for Netflix. Though Harry released Heart of Invictus in 2023, it failed to match the success of their initial docuseries.

Currently, Prince Harry is working on a solo project titled Polo, which is raising eyebrows for an unexpected reason: Harry won’t be the star. Instead, the show will focus on his close friend, polo player Nacho Figueras. This decision has left some Netflix insiders puzzled.

“Any reasonable person tuning into a show about polo made by Prince Harry would expect Harry to take a starring role,” one source told the Mail. “That he’s not is hugely disappointing for Netflix. Let’s face it, polo isn’t exactly a mainstream sport, so the attraction would have been watching Harry. Without him, it’s marginal at best.”

Another insider added, “For a show about a sport of kings, polo barely features any royalty. It’s not the Harry show, it’s the Nacho show.”

A third source chimed in, saying, “Nice of Harry to do his mate a favor.”

The timing is critical for the Sussexes, as their contract with Netflix is set to expire in 2025. With no major hit since their initial series, some reports suggest that they’re under pressure to deliver another blockbuster project if they want their deal renewed.

“The Netflix deal expires next year, so the Sussexes need a big hit. This sounds like a big nothing burger,” one source bluntly put it.

As the deadline for their contract renewal approaches, all eyes are on Prince Harry and Meghan to see if they can recreate the success of Harry & Meghan, or if their Netflix deal will end with unmet expectations.
