Fans Stunned: Death in Paradise’s Don Warrington Has TWO Celebrity Sons – Who Are They?

Turns out one of Death in Paradise’s most familiar faces has a family connection that’s flown under the radar—until now. Don Warrington, who fans will instantly recognise as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson on the beloved BBC series, has a son who’s quietly been building an impressive acting career of his own.
Don has been a staple on Death in Paradise since the show first aired in 2017, and with the current series wrapping up and spin-off Beyond Paradise stepping into the spotlight, viewers have become curious about the actors’ real lives off-screen. And Don’s personal life? It’s full of fascinating surprises, reported the Express.
At 72, Don’s been acting for decades, appearing in everything from cult sitcom Rising Damp to Red Dwarf, where he starred alongside Death in Paradise co-star Danny John-Jules. Born in Trinidad, Don moved to Newcastle with his mum and brother when he was just seven. Sadly, he lost his father, Basil Kydd—a Trinidadian politician—when he was only six.
But it’s Don’s son, Jake Fairbrother, who’s made waves recently without most fans even realising the family connection. Jake’s carved out quite a career in acting himself, with credits including the James Bond film Skyfall, the crime drama Grace, and even a 2022 guest appearance in Death in Paradise—sharing the screen with his dad.
Jake’s face might be familiar to eagle-eyed viewers, as he’s also popped up in popular UK series like Vera, The Sandman, and Alex Rider. Despite the overlap in their careers, the father-son duo doesn’t often work together, but their paths have crossed in some lovely ways. Back in 2018, both Don and Jake were starring in plays in Manchester—Jake in The Maids at HOME, and Don just around the corner in Death of a Salesman at the Royal Exchange.
“It’s absolutely a coincidence that my dad and I are working in Manchester at the same time, but a lovely one,” Jake told Quays Life at the time. “He’s just down the road at the Royal Exchange in Death of a Salesman, which I saw last night! His performance is incredible, everyone should try and see it. We’ll hopefully be able to grab pre-show dinners together once The Maids is up and running too.”
It’s no surprise Jake’s so passionate about performance. Both of his parents are actors—his mum, Mary Maddocks (Don’s wife), has her own stage credentials, including a role in the West End production of The Rocky Horror Show. Reflecting on their influence, Jake said: “The main thing I get from both of them is they understand the art of performance and the need to perform. It’s not something you choose to do. It’s something that you can’t not do.”
Don’s other son, Archie, is also in the creative world. He’s a writer and comedian, best known for his 2021 play A Place For We, which starred Inbetweeners favourite Blake Harrison. Archie’s comedy-drama Congton has also been picked up by the BBC.
So while Don Warrington continues to keep order on the fictional island of Saint Marie, it seems talent truly runs in the family—with both of his sons making waves in their own right, quietly but confidently.
