Oleksandr Usyk’s Priceless Reaction to Tyson Fury’s Dad Headbutting His Friend
Fury’s dad John was left bloodied after headbutting a member of Usyk’s team, and the Ukrainian’s reaction to the incident is fitting of his character.
Oleksandr Usyk ‘laughed’ after being shown a video of Tyson Fury’s dad, John, headbutting his friend. The incident occurred on the first day of fight week ahead of Fury and Usyk’s undisputed heavyweight world title clash this Saturday night. Mirror Fighting was on the ground in Riyadh for the media day when Fury’s dad, John, went face-to-face with a member of Usyk’s team, Stanislav Stepchuk, before headbutting him, via Daily Star.
Stepchuk had a small mark above his eye after being headbutted, while John’s face was left covered in blood. When asked about Usyk’s reaction to Stepchuk being headbutted, a member of Team Usyk told Seconds Out, “He was just laughing, it was funny when he showed him the video.”
Usyk played down the altercation, insisting his only focus this week is on Fury and not his dad. “Crazy day, crazy week. For me, it doesn’t matter because my focus is on the fight. Bad behavior from Fury’s team and Fury’s father, it’s only a problem for Fury’s team,” he told The Stomping Ground.
“I think Tyson has bipolar. One week Tyson says [I’m a] rabbit, bad guy, light-heavyweight. Next week, good boxer and a lot of good words for me. I don’t think about it, my focus is only on the fight. I don’t have a prediction because I’m not an expert, I’m only an athlete. My prediction… beautiful fight… beautiful win. Oleksandr ‘The Cat’ Usyk. Undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”
John Fury has since apologized for his actions but claims he was sticking up for his son, who he feels was being disrespected by Usyk’s team. Stepchuk admitted he was shocked when John headbutted him and described the moment as irrational. “I was just supporting my team and shouting Usyk,” he added.
“I didn’t touch him [John], he just exposed his mind and went crazy. If he gets mad only from shouting Usyk’s name, what will happen in five days? He thinks there isn’t respect because of shouting Usyk’s name, so maybe he is a little bit crazy. For his sake, don’t watch the actual fight because he could have a heart attack and finish in an ambulance.”
Tensions are clearly high as the fight approaches, but Usyk remains focused on the task at hand. With the undisputed heavyweight world title on the line, both fighters are preparing for what promises to be an intense and highly anticipated showdown.
