Nigel Farage Gets Green Light for Lavish Three-Storey New Build in Romney Marsh

Nigel Farage has been granted permission to demolish a “tired” house on the Kent coast and replace it with a striking three-story property. The Reform UK leader’s proposal for a seafront home in Greatstone on Romney Marsh received approval from Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC) after no objections were raised by neighbors.

Farage, who bought the dilapidated three-bedroom house in March 2023 for £575,000, described the seaside village as a “super place with a great beach.” This week, the 60-year-old expressed his satisfaction, saying he is “pleased” the plans have been approved, reported by Kent Online.

The existing two-story home, which offers picturesque sea views, is in disrepair and described in planning documents as being in “poor condition and showing signs of age.” The new design, submitted by Farage’s company, Thorn in the Side Ltd, was created by Hollaway Studio, known for iconic Kent projects such as the Curious Brewery in Ashford and the F51 skatepark in Folkestone.

The replacement property will maintain three bedrooms but will span three stories, featuring a master bedroom and en-suite in the roof space. The ground floor will include a garage and carport with space for three cars, complemented by a generous driveway accommodating two additional vehicles. Outside, a sunken terrace and a first-floor balcony will offer stunning sea views, making the most of the coastal location.

The seaside house, last sold in 1996 for £58,000, boasts a prime beachfront position on Romney Marsh. Farage’s new home will back directly onto the beach, promising a serene and modern living space.

While it remains unclear whether Farage intends to use the property as a primary residence or holiday home, the famous politician shared his enthusiasm for the area earlier this year. Known for his political career, Farage previously stood for the South Thanet constituency in the 2005 and 2015 general elections, narrowly losing in 2015 to Conservative Craig Mackinlay.

Born in Downe, Kent, Farage currently resides in the same village, which, though part of Bromley, retains its countryside charm and lies just 10 miles from Sevenoaks. With this new project, he is set to create a modern retreat that complements the picturesque coastline of Greatstone.
