TV Presenter Narinder Kaur Involves Police After Backlash Over Question About Kate Middleton’s Appearance

TV presenter Narinder Kaur has revealed that police are now involved following intense backlash over a question she posed about Kate Middleton’s appearance on Twitter. The controversy began when Kaur responded to a Daily Mail Online post regarding the Princess of Wales’ “aged” look during Remembrance Sunday events.

Kate, 42, attended the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 9, and the Cenotaph’s Remembrance Sunday service the following day. In response, Kaur, 51, tweeted: “Genuine question – why has Kate aged so much? Isn’t she only 42?” She continued, “Is she a smoker? It’s the only explanation”, according to Tyla.

Her remarks quickly sparked outrage online, with royal fans voicing shock and disapproval. In the wake of the backlash, Kaur admitted that her comments were “stupid” and “insensitive” but revealed that she, too, has faced extreme reactions, including “sexual, racial, [and] violent abuse.”

In a video posted to Twitter, Kaur explained, “I put out a stupid tweet – that wasn’t my intention. My intention was not to be malicious or nasty.” She continued, “It was stupid to ask about the aging, I’ve admitted that, and I put my hands up, and I’ve apologized if it caused offense.”

Kaur emphasized that while many people on social media had commented similarly, she felt singled out for particularly severe abuse. “The only people who were offended though, because many people on Twitter and social media asked exactly what I asked, but did not receive the sexual, racial, violent abuse that I did from accounts with EDL flags, Union Jacks,” she shared. “I asked about aging. I didn’t kill kids. I didn’t wish death on anyone. I didn’t do anything like that. I asked about aging, and if she smoked, nothing to do with cancer at all.”

Kaur also noted that Kate has had “near enough a year off work,” suggesting that life changes could contribute to a more tired appearance. However, she clarified that she does not excuse her original tweet and acknowledged the backlash. “I’m not excusing my tweet but I’m saying you’re all mad at me.”

The trolling and abuse Kaur received have become so severe that she has contacted the police. “The abuse, like you said you’ve not even showed the worst of it, has gone to the Metropolitan Police, it’s that bad,” she stated on the Jeremy Vine Show. She added, “I’ve had all kinds of threats, and that doesn’t equate to a woman just asking ‘Does Kate Middleton smoke?’ It doesn’t match, it doesn’t tally.”

The incident has highlighted the intense scrutiny and polarized responses that online commentary about the royal family can provoke.
