Met Office Warns: Sudden Spring Heatwave Set to Hit the UK

It looks like the UK is in for a bit of a surprise this week. Thursday could be warmer here than in Ibiza or Corfu, according to the Met Office.
With temperatures expected to hit 19C (66F) in the south of England, that’s a couple of degrees higher than Ibiza’s predicted 17C (62F) and well above Corfu’s 16C (60F). Not bad for the first official day of spring!
Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell gave a promising outlook, saying, “We’re expecting quite a lot of dry weather, increasing amounts of sunshine as we head through the next few days. By Wednesday, we’re looking at highs of about 17C in the South. And then on Thursday, we could get as high as 19C.”

For this time of year, those temperatures are a solid 8C above average, making it feel more like early summer than the usual chilly March days.
But before you dig out the BBQ, there’s still a bit of a wait. The next couple of days will stay on the cooler side, hovering around 10C, with a brisk wind making it feel even colder. “We’ve also got quite a chilly wind at the moment, so it’s making it feel even colder,” Mitchell added.
Thursday’s warm spell will coincide with the spring equinox, marking the official start of the new season. And it’s not just the south getting a taste of this early warmth—southeast England and the Midlands will see the highest temperatures, but the warm air is expected to spread further north and west into Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
The only place holding onto the chill will be northern Scotland, where temperatures are set to stay stubbornly low through the middle of the week.
So, while we might not be hitting beach weather just yet, it’s shaping up to be a pretty decent start to spring—especially when we’re outshining some of Europe’s go-to holiday spots!
