Melania Trump attends DC Film Premiere with Donald Trump, Nicki Minaj and More
Melania Trump took centre stage Thursday night at the premiere of her new film, presenting it as a deeply personal project that offers an uncommon glimpse into life at the highest levels of power. Speaking to the audience at the newly renamed Trump-Kennedy Centre, Melania made clear that the movie defies easy labels.
“Some have called this a documentary. It is not,” she said. “It is a creative experience that offers perspectives, insights and moments that only few perceive.”
The film, Melania: Twenty Days to History, follows the intense period leading up to Donald Trump’s second inauguration, tracing Melania’s journey from Mar-a-Lago to Manhattan. Dressed in a buttoned Dolce & Gabbana dress and black stilettos, she arrived alongside the president and a mix of political and entertainment figures, including Dr Phil, Nicki Minaj, and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

On the red carpet, Trump likened the night to Hollywood’s past glory. “This is like the good old days when the Academy Awards used to get ratings,” he told reporters.
One expected guest, however, did not appear. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was absent amid mounting pressure following the fatal shooting of a protester by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis. Trump instead praised immigration official Tom Homan, saying, “I think he’s terrific,” before adding, “But we have to get rid of the criminals.”
Asked about the inspiration behind the film, Melania answered simply: “Well it was my life.” She added, “You will see humor, you will see grief, you will see fashion so I’m very proud of the film.”

Trump brushed off questions about Amazon’s reported $40 million deal for the film rights by mocking a past Netflix agreement tied to former President Barack Obama. “Ask President Obama who got paid a lot of money and hasn’t done anything. Melania really produced,” he said.

The premiere drew a wide array of political figures, including Speaker Mike Johnson, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The film itself, directed by Brett Ratner, offers a behind-the-scenes portrait of one of the most private first ladies in modern history.

Promoting the movie on Fox earlier this week, Melania emphasised control over her public image. “I’m a very private person and a very selective person. What I do, what I don’t do; when I talk, when I don’t talk. And that’s my choice,” she said. “Nobody is in charge of me and I’m not in charge of anybody else.”
The project began almost immediately after Trump’s election victory, with Amazon MGM Studios winning a competitive bidding war. The film marks another milestone for Melania, following her memoir’s success, and ends with her own words explaining the decision to step into the spotlight: “Everyone wants to know. So here it is.”
