Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s reaction to ‘disaster tourists’ remarks revealed

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reacted to sharp criticism from Hollywood actress-turned-producer Justine Bateman, who called their wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles a “repulsive photo op.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently visited a meal distribution center to support victims of the devastating wildfires, drawing backlash from Bateman.

In a scathing comment, Bateman said, “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved.” She further questioned their intentions, stating, “They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists. #PalisadesFire.”

Responding to the criticism, a source close to Meghan and Harry told Page Six, “It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.” The insider defended the couple, emphasizing their genuine commitment to supporting the community.

According to the source, Meghan’s concern for those affected is deeply personal. “Her heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires,” they explained. The insider dismissed the notion that Meghan and Harry are “just tourists,” highlighting their active involvement in relief efforts.

The source also detailed the couple’s contributions, stating that the California-based royals have “invested significant time and resources, donated money and essential items,” and dedicated “countless hours to volunteering, long before the media even caught wind of their involvement.”

Meghan and Harry have made humanitarian work a cornerstone of their public lives, frequently advocating for social justice, environmental conservation, and disaster relief. Their wildfire relief efforts are part of their broader mission to support vulnerable communities, though their high-profile status often draws both praise and criticism.

While Bateman’s remarks have sparked controversy, the Duke and Duchess remain focused on their charitable initiatives, undeterred by the backlash. Their commitment to making a difference, even amid public scrutiny, underscores their dedication to their causes.
