Man Stabbed to Death on His Own Doorstep While Calling 999 – Wife Watches in Horror

A South London community has been left reeling after a man was brutally stabbed to death on his own doorstep — while making a desperate 999 call, and with his wife standing just feet away.

Leon Anderson, 39, was attacked outside his home in Maple Close, Mitcham, shortly before 7.30 pm on April 28. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he later died in the hospital. The shocking details were laid out in court this week, as the man accused of his murder appeared at the Old Bailey, reported My London.

Kemuel Gambicky-Forbes, 24, who also lives in Mitcham, is charged with murdering Mr Anderson and possessing a bladed article. Appearing in a grey tracksuit and flanked by security, Mr Gambicky-Forbes was told he’ll remain in custody until at least his plea hearing in July, with a full trial scheduled for January 2026.

Prosecutor Paul Case told the court that Mr Anderson’s wife, Natasha, saw the stabbing happen. “Natasha was and is a witness to the incident that led to her husband’s death,” he said. “The incident happened on his front doorstep while he was on a 999 call.”

The court also heard that the weapon used in the attack has not been recovered. Describing it as “a weapon of some significance,” the prosecution suggested this was not a premeditated killing, but rather, as Judge Sarah Whitehouse KC put it, “a spontaneous outburst of violence with fatal consequences.”

Police say the accused and the victim were neighbours and knew each other, though further details about their relationship have yet to emerge. Mr Gambicky-Forbes handed himself in at a police station on April 29 and was charged the following day.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the otherwise quiet area. Pastor El Safo, 50, who lives nearby, told the PA news agency: “It’s a very quiet area. I’ve lived here for more than 15 years and have never seen anything like this. It’s really unfortunate and has caused a lot of panic.”

His own son witnessed the immediate aftermath, seeing paramedics frantically trying to save Mr Anderson outside their home. “He was horrified,” said Pastor El Safo.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, from the Met’s Specialist Crime South team, said: “The victim’s loved ones are being supported by specially trained officers. They have our deepest sympathies following this terrible loss.”
