Man Charged After Pregnant Nurse Dies in Tragic HGV Crash Days Following Baby Shower
0A man has been charged in connection with the fatal collision that claimed the life of Eve Brown, a heavily pregnant nurse, just days before Christmas. The 41-year-old mother tragically died when her Kia Sorento collided with a Tesco lorry near junction 1 of the M8 motorway at Hermiston Gait on Monday, December 18, 2023.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Eve was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The motorway remained closed for over nine hours while a thorough accident investigation was conducted.
Eve, from Bellshill, leaves behind two young daughters, aged three and four. Just two days before the tragic accident, Eve had joyfully celebrated her baby shower, smiling with friends and family as she showed off her baby bump in a sequin dress, told Glasgow Live.
This morning, Wednesday, September 4, Police Scotland confirmed that a 58-year-old man had been arrested and charged with road traffic offenses related to the crash. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
In the aftermath of Eve’s death, heartfelt tributes poured in from friends and the local community, who rallied to support her grieving family. Emma Reynolds wrote, “Rest in peace Eve. Sending my love & healing to your daughters.” Another friend, Udoka Chinwe, shared, “Your friends and family celebrated your baby shower, only for you to be snatched away from us. Can we get one more hug? One more dance?”
A touching tribute from Somto Christabel Emy-Amaugo read, “She wasn’t just a woman, she was a woman with a large heart. I will miss your wonderful, opera-singing voice, your praise sessions, your hearty laughter, your larger-than-life attitude, and your beautiful smile.”
A local charity, Charity Dashing Hounds Bellshill, also stepped in to organize donations for Eve’s two young daughters. “We desperately want to help this family as they come to terms with the devastating loss of their mum, sister, and daughter. Any help, especially so close to Christmas, would be greatly appreciated,” they stated.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the charges, saying, “A 58-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offenses following a fatal crash on the M8. The man is due to appear at court at a later date.”
