I Wrote Every Feckin Word Lorraine Kelly Defends Her Novel Against Doubts

Lorraine Kelly has passionately defended herself after being included on a list of celebrities accused of not writing their own books. The ITV host, author of the novel The Island Swimmer, was left hurt by the claim and didn’t hold back in her response.

The novel, described by Amazon as “feel-good,” tells the story of Evie, who returns to her family home in Orkney after her father falls gravely ill. Evie, estranged from her sister Liv due to a childhood trauma, is met with a frosty reception as she prepares to sell their father’s neglected house. Along the way, she finds solace and self-discovery through a group of cold-water swimmers, unlocking truths that shake both her family and community, reported by the Express.

While fans have praised The Island Swimmer for its heartfelt storytelling and vivid setting, journalist Deborah Ross recently questioned the works of celebrity authors. In an article, Ross singled out Jamie Oliver and included Lorraine’s name in a list of famous figures alleged to rely on ghostwriters.

Lorraine, 64, took to Twitter to express her frustration. Sharing the article, she wrote, “So Deborah – really love your writing but FFS – I wrote every feckin word of my novel #theislandswimmer – hardest thing I’ve ever done.” She added, “You’ve really hurt me,” revealing the emotional toll the accusation had taken.

The post sparked an outpouring of support from fans and readers alike. One fan wrote, “Didn’t know you’d written a book lovely Lorraine…. But I just bought it!!! #theislandswimmer.” Another praised her work, saying, “Loved #TheIslandSwimmer. Listened to the audiobook and your reading really brought it to life. Your knowledge of and love for the Orkney setting really shone through.”

Many others shared similar sentiments. “Your book was brilliant. I was captivated from the start and had to force myself to stop listening every night so I could get some sleep. No feckin idea what this Deborah person is on about,” commented one supporter.

Lorraine also teased exciting news for fans of her writing, replying to a fan: “Almost finished the second one!”

Despite the doubts, Lorraine has clearly earned the admiration of readers who appreciate her heartfelt work, ensuring The Island Swimmer continues to shine as a testament to her talent and passion.
