Lily Allen Opens Up About Why She Really Had Kids
0In a revealing episode of her podcast with Miquita Oliver, Lily Allen opened up about the personal reasons behind her decision to become a mother, linking it to a search for unconditional love and a respite from her fast-paced career. During the discussion, the 39-year-old singer admitted that her motives for starting a family were intertwined with her professional life and emotional needs.
“I think I had children for all the wrong reasons really because I was yearning for unconditional love, which I haven’t felt in my life since I was a child. And also my career was at such a high speed, you know high pressure and I’m a people pleaser and I felt like very overwhelmed by what was happening,” Allen shared. She explained that the constant public and professional pressure made her seek a significant life change that would allow her some peace.
Allen, who first gained fame in 2005 through her music on MySpace, has enjoyed a successful career with multiple Brit Awards and a Grammy nomination. However, she described feeling like she was on a “treadmill” at the height of her fame, which led her to view pregnancy as a potential escape. “I just didn’t get much respite and I felt like the one way to stop people hassling me, it’s not about me its about this other person that’s inside me,” she explained, indicating that the decision did indeed provide her the break she sought.
Now married to actor David Harbour, Allen also touched on personal topics such as her current sexual health, which she suspects might be influenced by perimenopausal changes. She humorously discussed her fluctuating libido, saying, “I go through horny phases and unhorny phases. And maybe this is related a little bit to hormones. I am in a ‘dry patch’ at the moment and I’m not really w right now, it all seems a bit laborious and a bit of a task but I think I might be a bit perimenopausal so I’m going to see a specialist.”
The conversation also veered into the challenges of public scrutiny, especially after controversial personal decisions such as re-homing a puppy, which led to intense backlash and even death threats. “Maybe it’s been all the f* death threats for sending my puppy back to the shelter that just hasn’t put me in the mood for rampant sex,” she remarked candidly.
Allen’s openness provides a rare glimpse into the complexities of life as a public figure and mother, navigating intense personal and public expectations.
