Labrinth blasts music industry in fiery rant, says ‘fake isn’t a good business plan’

Labrinth is once again speaking out, and this time, he’s taking aim at the music industry as a whole. In a new Instagram Notes post shared, the artist delivered a blunt critique of what he sees as toxic ambition and inauthenticity within the business.

“WE HOVER AROUND BIG STARS HOPING TO BE IN THEIR PLACE ONE DAY LIKE SNAKES,” he wrote in all caps, accusing artists of chasing fame at the expense of genuine connection. He went on to compare the industry’s mindset to a “wolves of Wall Street” mentality, where relationships are sacrificed for opportunity.

Labrinth also questioned the commercialization of music itself, writing, “WHO THE F— SAID THIS IS NORMAL OR OK TO TURN WHAT I CALL GODS NOISE (our music) INTO BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS?” He ended the post with a firm stance: “I DONT SUBSCRIBE,” later adding in the caption, “Fake ain’t a good business plan.”

The post quickly drew support from fellow artists, including India Arie, Lauren Jauregui, and Dove Cameron, who echoed his frustrations and shared similar sentiments.

This marks the second time in a week Labrinth has aired grievances publicly. In a now-deleted post, he criticized his label and HBO’s Euphoria, a show he has been closely tied to as its lead score producer since 2019.

Despite the controversy, Labrinth remains active professionally. He recently released his fourth studio album, Cosmic Opera: Act I, and is expected to return for Euphoria season three, premiering April 12.
