Kym Marsh ‘Shaken and Vulnerable’ After Terrifying Phone Theft Ordeal

Kym Marsh has opened up about a terrifying moment when her phone was stolen right out of her hands on a London street. The 48-year-old was walking along Buckingham Palace Road at around 9.30 pm two weeks ago when the incident happened. She barely had time to take her phone out of her pocket before it was snatched, according to the Daily Mail.

Speaking about the ordeal on Morning Live, Kym admitted she was left feeling “really vulnerable” and “shaken.” Talking to co-host Gethin Jones, she said: “It is quite a scary thing to happen to you, you’re walking down a road, and then all of a sudden something’s taken out of your hand. But thankfully, I was okay.”

In a clip for the show, she described how quickly it all happened. “I got my phone out and within seconds, it was gone,” she said. “I immediately wanted to get help but, of course, it’s not so easy when you don’t have your phone”, reported by the Mirror.

But beyond the inconvenience of losing a phone, Kym was devastated about something far more personal—losing precious messages from her late father. “I’ve now lost messages that my dad sent me and things I can never get back. It’s that emotional side of it,” she said.

Her father, David Marsh, passed away in January 2024 after battling prostate cancer. Kym previously spoke about how his death left her “heartbroken.”

Sadly, Kym’s experience is part of a much bigger problem in London. Recent figures from Compare the Market reveal that 70,137 phones were stolen in the city in 2024 alone—that’s a shocking 1,349 stolen every week. The problem is particularly bad in Westminster and the West End, where nearly 40% of thefts happen.

Phone snatching has become a growing issue in the capital, with numbers increasing dramatically. In 2023, there were 52,428 reported phone thefts, meaning the problem has escalated significantly in just a year.

For Kym, the loss of her phone was about more than just the device itself. It was a reminder of how vulnerable street crime can make people feel and how something as simple as a phone holds irreplaceable memories.
