Kay Burley Drops Bombshell on Why She Was Suddenly Pulled Off Sky News!

TV icon Kay Burley has officially signed off from Sky News after 36 years, but her final days on air didn’t quite go as planned. Just before her big exit, the 64-year-old was hit with a nasty allergic reaction that forced her to pull out of presenting. She missed a broadcast and later posted a raw, no-makeup selfie on Instagram to show her 54,000 followers just how bad it got, reports the Express.

In the photo, Kay’s face looked visibly swollen and puffy, with the caption: “When allergies prevent you from being on the TV. Sorry to have missed you all today.” No word yet on what triggered the reaction, but fans were quick to send their well wishes.

The timing couldn’t have been more dramatic, as she was gearing up to say goodbye to the show that’s been her home since 1989. The broadcasting veteran made the emotional announcement live on Sky News Breakfast, revealing that it would be her final appearance.

Looking back over a career that spanned more than three decades and well over a million minutes of live TV, Kay listed some of the biggest moments she’s covered—from the death of Princess Diana and 9/11, to the joy of royal weddings and Olympic wins. “It’s been an honour and privilege to work with some of the best and hardest working teams in the business,” she said, according to the Mirror.

And in true Kay style, she couldn’t resist one last dig, joking: “Let politicians of every party just rejoice at that news!”—a cheeky nod to her famously fiery interviews and clashes with MPs over the years.

Aside from news, Kay’s been no stranger to headlines herself. From an awkward sit-down that left Peter Andre in tears to a brutal shut-down of Michael Gove’s bizarre conspiracy chat, she’s never shied away from uncomfortable moments.

She’s also been candid about her personal life, including her decision to have cosmetic surgery. She previously explained she had a lower facelift in 2011 to “not get mugged off by mother nature,” and said the results were worth it. “It’s just a traumatic experience because obviously I get paid for what I look like to a certain extent,” she said, adding that the effects of the surgery should last around ten years.

Now, with her time at Sky over, Kay says she’s ready to enjoy her other passions—especially traveling. She wrapped up her goodbye with heartfelt thanks to viewers: “You’re awesome. Please keep in touch.” And just like that, one of the most recognizable faces in UK news takes her final bow—with a bit of swelling, some sass, and a lot of gratitude.
