Princess Kate Issues First Message Since Undergoing Surgery

The British royal family traditionally maintains a private stance on health matters

In a heartfelt message shared on Sunday, Princess Kate of the UK extended her gratitude to the public for their warm wishes, marking her first communication since her abdominal surgery in January. Accompanying her words was a tender photograph featuring her with her three children.

This gesture addresses the rampant rumors and speculation on social media concerning the Princess’s well-being, following her absence from the public eye since Christmas Day.

Captured by Prince William, her spouse and the future king, the photo showcases a radiant Kate at 42, encircled by her sons, Princes George and Louis, and her daughter, Princess Charlotte.

“Your kind wishes and ongoing support these past two months have meant the world to me,” Kate shared on X, adding, “A joyous Mother’s Day to all.” Mother’s Day is observed on Sunday in the UK. The family portrait was taken earlier in the week at Windsor, their residence, as confirmed by her office at Kensington Palace.

In January, Kate underwent a two-week hospital stay for a benign, though undisclosed, medical condition. Since then, she has remained out of the public eye, and it’s been announced that her return to official engagements might not occur until post-Easter, towards the end of this month.

The British royal family typically refrains from publicizing health-related issues, opting to keep medical matters confidential. However, Kate’s prolonged absence has fueled public conjecture regarding her health.

Earlier this month, her representatives emphasized that only “significant updates” regarding her recuperation would be communicated.

Coincidentally, Kate’s surgery occurred on the same day it was revealed that King Charles, aged 75, would be seeking medical attention for an enlarged prostate. During his hospital stay, an undisclosed type of cancer was diagnosed, leading to the postponement of his royal duties. Nonetheless, he has been depicted fulfilling certain state responsibilities.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Buckingham Palace also shared a poignant image of Charles bestowing a kiss on the hand of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022 at 96.

“To all Mothers, and those cherishing memories of their Mums, wishing you a serene Mothering Sunday,” the message read alongside the photo.
