Kate Garraway Breaks Silence on Good Morning Britain Absence After Father’s Hospitalization
0Kate Garraway has broken her social media silence to address her recent absence from Good Morning Britain, revealing that her father was rushed to the hospital in a “very scary” ordeal.
The 57-year-old presenter caused concern among her ITV colleagues and viewers when she took a break to be with her family. She has now reassured everyone that her father, Gordon, is on the mend and she is currently assisting her mum and brother.
Garraway shared that her father is now stable and recuperating in the hospital, expressing gratitude to the “incredible” NHS staff for their “kindness and heart.” She also thanked ITV and her co-workers for rearranging their schedules to cover for her during this challenging period, told Lancs Live.
Additionally, Garraway explained that she had previously booked some time off to spend with her children, Darcey and Billy, which she said they “really need.”
Taking to Instagram, she posted a photo of herself with her dad and wrote: “Hi all – sorry I disappeared from here when my dad collapsed and was rushed to the hospital 2 weeks ago while having a holiday with my mum at my brother’s. It was very scary but I am so pleased that he is now stable and even recovering a bit in the hospital. We have so much to be grateful for but are taking it a day at a time.
“Huge thanks to the incredible NHS staff for their endless kindness and the heart they put into the care of all their patients, which has meant so much to my mum and all our family. Huge thanks too to my incredible friends @itv and @smoothradio, particularly @ranvirtv @charlottehawkins1 @tinahobleyofficial @myleeneklass, for yet again changing their plans to cover for me so I could put my family first.
“Luckily, I also had some week’s leave booked, so I have been able to support my mum and brother and be with my dad while also giving Darcey and Billy some summer fun during their school holidays, which they really need. I am hoping to be back on @gmb and @smoothradio on Monday, so I can update more then. But for now, sending love to you all #love #hope #friendshipday.”
Garraway has been flooded with messages of support following her update. The post has received thousands of likes from colleagues, including Susanna Reid. Fans also shared their support in the comments. Kaz wrote, “Sending love, Kate, to you and your family.” Kirstie posted, “Glad to hear he is on the road to recovery.” Heather commented, “So glad he’s recovering.”
This comes as Garraway tries to get her life back on track following her husband Derek Draper’s death last year. Former political advisor and author Derek, from Chorley, died on January 3 after battling the severe effects of the coronavirus for over three years, which damaged all his major organs. He and Garraway had been married for 19 years and share children Darcey and Billy. She recently said she’s “barely holding it together.”
