Jane McDonald, a beloved figure on Loose Women for more than a decade, bid farewell to the show in 2014 to focus on her music career. The 61-year-old presenter joined the ITV panel in 2004, working alongside iconic co-hosts like Andrea McLean, Carol McGiffin, and Sherrie Hewson, all of whom have since pursued new ventures.
Throughout her tenure, Jane took breaks to prioritize her music tours and travel shows. However, in January 2014, she announced her permanent departure. Sharing the news on social media, Jane wrote: “It has been an incredible 10 years for me on Loose Women and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again on tour, and I thank you all for your continued support, loyalty, and best wishes”, reported the Express.
At the time, Jane was preparing for a national concert tour and a new album release, making it the perfect moment to leave the show behind. While she made occasional guest appearances after her departure, Jane made it clear that a permanent return was not in her plans. Speaking to Woman Magazine, she said: “Never say never. But it was a period in time when everything was different. We could get away with things that we could never do now.
“And it was an era of girls who were not just colleagues – we were a force to be reckoned with. We were like Sex and the City when we hit the town. We’d have taken a bullet for each other. I don’t think I could go back without my friends on the same panel.”
Her representative echoed this sentiment, confirming, “There are no discussions taking place with regards to Jane returning to Loose Women whatsoever. She always thoroughly enjoys going back as a guest and catching up with the ladies, but there’s no plan to return as a panelist.”
Loose Women has since evolved, now featuring a diverse lineup that includes Ruth Langsford, 64, Coleen Nolan, 59, Christine Lampard, 45, Charlene White, 44, Olivia Attwood, 33, and GK Barry, 25.
Jane’s departure marked the end of an era for the show, but her impact remains a cherished part of its history. Fans continue to support her thriving music and travel career, where her vibrant personality shines just as brightly.
