How is King Charles doing after latest setback?

Buckingham Palace issued a rare health update on Thursday, sparking concern among royal watchers after revealing that King Charles experienced temporary side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.
The official statement read: “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital. His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed.”
The Palace assured the public that the King had since returned to Clarence House and was doing well, though his engagements scheduled for the following day would also be delayed: “His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled.”
“His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
The monarch, 76, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February last year following tests conducted after a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Since then, he has been receiving regular treatment and continuing royal duties when possible, reported PA Media.
Although the nature of the side effects has not been disclosed, a palace source downplayed the situation, calling it “no more than the most minor bump in the road.”
Just hours after the update, King Charles made a reassuring public appearance. On Friday morning, he was seen departing Clarence House by car, smiling and waving to well-wishers from the back seat. A BBC video captured the monarch in good spirits, passing by the crowds lining the road between Clarence House and Buckingham Palace.
Despite the temporary setback, the King’s planned state visit to Italy with Queen Camilla next month is still expected to go ahead, and no further health updates are anticipated.
King Charles’ initial diagnosis came less than 18 months into his reign, causing widespread concern across the UK and Commonwealth. However, palace officials have consistently struck an optimistic tone about his health. While his engagements are now carefully managed, the King has steadily returned to an active schedule.
As royal fans continue to offer their well wishes, the recent events highlight the balance the monarchy is maintaining between transparency and privacy amid the King’s health journey.
