Helen Flanagan is back in the dating world and had everyone rooting for her when she found love again after her split from footballer Scott Sinclair in 2022. But just as things were looking settled with her new man Robbie, it turns out he’s already moved out — and Helen has opened up about the real reason behind it.
The 34-year-old mum-of-three met Robbie, a divorced dad-of-two, on the celeb-favourite dating app Raya. Things moved quickly, and before long, he’d moved into her home. But despite still being very much a couple, he’s now packed his bags and left.
Speaking to The Sun, Helen got candid about what’s really going on. “I don’t want to say I think this is forever because it puts too much pressure on us,” she admitted.
She explained that while she asked him to stay with her for a while — mostly because she feels uneasy being home alone — she’s been putting her children’s needs first. “I often get quite scared in the house on my own and feel safer with a man there,” she shared honestly.
But when it comes to her eldest daughter Matilda, it’s clear the situation is a bit more delicate. “Matilda is very sensitive and a proper daddy’s girl, and she struggles with not seeing Scott as often as she’d like. I always think about how she feels when she misses her dad, and having my boyfriend there maybe doesn’t help her,” Helen explained.
Helen and Scott, who began dating back in 2009 and got engaged in 2018, share three children together — Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, and Charlie, four. Though their relationship ended in 2022, Helen has spoken warmly about her focus on co-parenting and making sure the kids are at the centre of everything.
Recently, she also got vulnerable on Instagram about her ongoing battle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) — something she says has deeply impacted both her personal life and her relationships. PMDD, according to mental health charity Mind, is an extreme form of PMS that causes a range of emotional and physical symptoms in the weeks leading up to a period.
“I always feel like I have four personalities in one month and any boyfriend I’ve ever had knows how bad my PMDD can be. The luteal phase for me can be the very worst,” Helen admitted. She didn’t hold back describing her past symptoms: “I used to have very bad intense symptoms for about 10 days — severe depression, sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, anxiety, OCD — OCD so crippling I thought I was going mad, exhaustion, brain fog.”
Things are a little better now, but not perfect. “Now I get about 4 days before my period where I don’t feel myself mentally,” she added. “I also get severe bloating before my period where I can pass off at being pregnant.” So, while Helen’s new relationship isn’t quite the fairytale just yet, she’s clearly prioritising her kids, her health, and taking things one day at a time — and fans are still very much behind her.
