Prince Harry Upset Over Lack of Royal Recognition for Nigeria Efforts, Expert Claims

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently traveled to Nigeria for Harry’s Invictus Games. Although the visit was intended for the games, it resembled a royal tour so closely that it was dubbed a “faux royal tour.” During their time in Nigeria, Harry and Meghan engaged in discussions with the Nigerian government about mental health and opportunities for youth. However, despite their efforts, the royal family did not acknowledge the positive impact of their visit, leaving Harry reportedly seeking validation from his family.

In early May, Harry briefly returned to the United Kingdom to attend a ceremony honoring the Invictus Games. While members of Princess Diana’s family were present, no one from the royal family showed their support, indicating ongoing tensions. From there, Harry immediately departed for Nigeria, where he reunited with Meghan Markle.

During the trip, Harry and Meghan interacted with many locals, as Nigeria became the first African country to join Harry’s Invictus Games. The couple immersed themselves in the culture, discussing topics such as mental health, parenthood, and other practical matters. Despite the positive nature of their visit, the royal family did not acknowledge Harry and Meghan’s efforts, which reportedly upset Harry.

“Harry and Meghan see their recent trip to Nigeria as a huge success, but for Harry, every success is another kind of failure while his family refuse to acknowledge his efforts and steadfastly refuse to apologize for everything that has happened in the past,” royal expert Tom Bradby told The Mirror. It appears that Harry still seeks validation from his family and hopes to mend their relationship.

The Nigeria tour was beneficial for the couple and the Invictus Games, but PR expert Lynn Carratt noted that the trip might have further strained their relationship with the royal family. “These faux-royal tours could deepen their rift with the royal family if not handled correctly,” Carratt told The Mirror. “Their Nigerian tour bared all the hallmarks of a royal tour, which was said to [have] infuriated the palace.” While there is speculation about the royal family’s feelings, it remains uncertain whether King Charles and other royals are genuinely upset or if this is merely speculation.

Harry and Meghan have mostly distanced themselves from the royal family, though Harry continues to support them when necessary. It is unlikely that fans will see either of them at this year’s Trooping the Colour ceremony. The lack of acknowledgment from the royal family regarding their efforts in Nigeria highlights the ongoing tension and unresolved issues within the family.
