Prince Harry Shuts Down Claims That Meghan Markle ‘Invented’ Royal Protocols

Prince Harry has firmly dismissed allegations that Meghan Markle broke Royal protocol following her entry into the Royal Family. In their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, the couple addressed the controversies surrounding Meghan’s actions and statements, particularly in 2018, when she spoke out about the #MeToo movement.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed how her discussions on sensitive issues led to friction within the royal system. “I didn’t know that that would be taboo to talk about,” Meghan remarked, reflecting on her experiences. Despite understanding that there were established protocols for how things were done, she was unaware of how her actions would be perceived as breaches of royal etiquette.

“There’s no class [where] some person goes, ‘Sit like this, cross your legs like this, use this fork, don’t do this, curtsy then, wear this kind of hat,'” Meghan explained. She highlighted the lack of formal training or guidelines provided to her upon joining the Royal Family, which led to her learning many things on the go. “It doesn’t happen. So I needed to learn a lot,” she added, emphasizing the challenges she faced in adapting to royal expectations, reported The Mirror.

Prince Harry, in the documentary, stood by his wife and defended her against the accusations. He pointed out that Meghan had actually set new precedents, such as the time she famously hugged a schoolgirl in Birmingham, an act that reportedly went against the traditional royal conduct.

“On top of that, with the press, there were a lot of invented protocols,” Harry asserted, criticizing how the media and some within the royal institution portrayed Meghan’s actions as breaches of protocol when, in fact, no such rules existed. His defense sheds light on the challenges they faced as a couple, dealing with both the internal dynamics of the Royal Family and the external pressures from the media.

These insights from the documentary underscore the couple’s struggle to navigate their roles within the Royal Family while staying true to their values. The allegations of protocol breaches, Harry suggests, were often exaggerated or entirely fabricated, contributing to the growing tension that ultimately led to their decision to step back from their royal duties. This defense highlights Harry’s commitment to protecting Meghan and challenging the misconceptions that have surrounded her time in the Royal Family.
