Harry and Meghan to Miss Godfather’s Wedding to Avoid ‘Further Tension’ with Royal Family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to miss the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, next month to avoid further tension with the Royal Family. Despite Hugh Grosvenor being Prince Archie’s godfather, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly decided not to attend his nuptials at Chester Cathedral, where he will marry Olivia Henson.

Prince William, however, is expected to attend the wedding as one of the 400 guests, but King Charles and Princess Kate will not be present due to their ongoing cancer treatments. According to reports, Charles and Princess Kate have respectfully declined the invitation because of their health conditions. Harry and Meghan’s decision to stay away is believed to be an effort to avoid any awkward family moments with other royals.

A royal insider revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose not to attend the significant celebration to sidestep any awkwardness, especially given that Prince William will be an usher at the event. The insider told The Sun: “Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both. He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realizes it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have recently returned to the US following a well-received trip to Nigeria. The couple flew from London Heathrow to the West African nation after Prince Harry attended the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Invictus Games in the UK. Following his participation in a service at St Paul’s Cathedral and a hotel stay, Harry reunited with Meghan at the airport, and together they traveled to Nigeria, as reported by The Mirror. Their visit included various engagements and participation in numerous events.

Following their brief stay in Nigeria, there are indications that things might be “looking up” for the couple. Royal commentator and expert Richard Fitzwilliams spoke exclusively to The Mirror, noting the significance of their upcoming sixth wedding anniversary on May 19. “After their successful three-day trip to Nigeria, which, though private, was much like a royal tour, things could be looking up for them if they plan their future activities with care,” Fitzwilliams said.

He added, “Meghan’s program for Netflix on cookery and entertaining and her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, along with Harry’s series for Netflix on polo, show some much-needed activity. They clearly need more A-list endorsements, however.”

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to navigate their lives post-royal duties, their decisions regarding public appearances and engagements will undoubtedly be closely watched by both supporters and critics. The couple’s efforts to manage their public image and personal relationships remain a delicate balancing act.
