Arrest Video Released for ‘Monstrous’ Kidnapper Alec Housden, Recently Sentenced to 16 Years for Historic Harpenden Crimes

Hertfordshire police have released a video documenting the arrest of Alec Housden, a convicted kidnapper and indecent assaulter described as ‘monstrous’ by Judge Francis Sheridan. Housden was recently sentenced to 16 years in prison for crimes dating back over two decades in Harpenden.

The arrest, which occurred on March 22, 2023, followed a DNA match that linked Housden to the unsolved cases. Hertfordshire Constabulary has now made public a video depicting the arrest and including interviews with Housden.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins explained, “We identified Housden as the perpetrator of both sexual assaults through DNA evidence, even though he was not initially on the national database. The police investigation uncovered compelling evidence linking Housden to the crimes.”

The offenses, committed over 20 years ago, haunted the lives of the victims, who are now in their 30s. Despite the passage of time, the authorities were determined to bring closure to the survivors.

Jenkins added, “These two courageous women, who endured an unimaginable experience, are relieved that Housden has finally been held accountable for his crimes.”
