HanesBrands Sets Bold Environmental Goals: Zero Waste by 2025 and Full Renewable Energy by 2030
0HanesBrands Inc., a leading global apparel company, has announced a major sustainability milestone, pledging to achieve zero waste across its entire operation by 2025. This commitment was revealed in their latest Sustainability Report, released on Earth Day.
The company, which owns popular brands such as Hanes, Champion, Bonds, Maidenform, and Bali, has outlined a comprehensive strategy focusing on the core pillars of People, Planet, and Product to meet its 2025 to 2030 sustainability objectives, reported by Yahoo.
The company has already made significant progress, receiving approval for its near-term science-based targets from the Science Based Targets initiative in 2023, aimed at reducing water and energy usage by 25%. Remarkably, since 2019.
HanesBrands has cut its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 53% and reduced its Scope 1 and 2 intensity by 41%. Currently, nearly 60% of the electricity used by the company is sourced from renewable resources, and 94% of waste from owned operations is diverted from landfills.
The report also highlights that by switching to 100% renewable electricity by 2030, HanesBrands is not only advancing its environmental goals but also realizing significant financial benefits. The company has saved 23 million USD since 2020, with over 10 million USD saved in 2023 alone.
Steve Bratspies, CEO of HanesBrands, expressed pride in the company’s strides towards its ambitious goals, emphasizing the importance of aligning product quality and value with sustainability. “Thanks to our dedicated associates, we are meeting consumer expectations for high-quality, comfortable products made responsibly,” he stated.
