GB News Viewers Outraged as They Demand Yvette Cooper’s Resignation Over David Amess Decision

GB News viewers have been left outraged after it was confirmed there would be no public inquiry into the murder of MP Sir David Amess. His daughter, Katie Amess, delivered an emotional and scathing statement condemning Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper for refusing the family’s request for an investigation.

Many viewers took to social media to vent their anger, backing Katie’s call for answers. One furious post read: “It’s a disgrace. A man was brutally killed by an Islamist terrorist, and the government agencies that failed him must be held accountable. Rejecting transparency is an insult not just to his family but to the entire country. What is Starmer afraid of?”

Another person slammed the decision as “two-tier justice” and called for the Home Secretary to resign, while a third praised Katie’s speech as “absolutely brilliant”, saying her father would have been proud of her. Others accused the government of being “corrupt and unaccountable” and demanded change, reported the Express.

Sir David Amess, the Conservative MP for Southend West, was brutally stabbed to death by Islamic State fanatic Ali Harbi Ali during a constituency surgery on 15 October 2021. His killer was known to security agencies yet was still able to carry out the horrific attack. Ali is now serving a whole-life prison sentence, but Sir David’s family has been left with unanswered questions about how such a failure of security could have happened.

Speaking through tears after learning there would be no public inquiry, Katie Amess said she wanted “Sir Keir and Yvette Cooper to know exactly what the consequences are when the very government agencies that are set up to protect people like my dad and members of the public fail.” She demanded to know: “Who was responsible, and what is being done to ensure that another family never has to go through this pain?”

Katie pointed out that her father’s murder should never have happened, yet here they were, still left in the dark about key failings that allowed his killer to walk free until it was too late. “His killer was known to the agencies, and yet he was let free to rip our lives apart,” she said.

The family had been demanding a full public inquiry to uncover why authorities, including Essex Police and the Prevent Programme, failed to stop an extremist who was already on their radar. But just before their scheduled meeting, the Home Secretary informed them that their request had been rejected.

Katie called the decision “an absolute insult and a betrayal” to her family and her father’s memory, insisting that endless “paper reviews” weren’t enough. “We know there were serious failings, but what we don’t know is why,” she said. With anger mounting and the government refusing to budge, the debate over justice for Sir David Amess and his family is far from over.
