Gethin Jones Shuts Down Rumors of Cameo in Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special, Much to the Disappointment of Co-Stars
0Gethin Jones dashed the hopes of Morning Live fans and co-stars on Wednesday when he debunked rumors of his involvement in the highly anticipated Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. Filming for the beloved BBC sitcom’s final episode began earlier this week, with the festive special set to air on Christmas Day. Despite Jones visiting Cardiff—where some scenes for the show are filmed—on Tuesday, he made it clear that he won’t be making an appearance in the holiday episode.
At the start of Wednesday’s Morning Live, Gethin addressed the speculation, saying, “I wasn’t here yesterday as I was down in Cardiff getting ready for a Christmas show. But can I just start by quashing the rumors that I am not in the Christmas Day special of Gavin and Stacey?” He went on to confirm, “I was in Cardiff yesterday, and I was near the bay where they were filming, but I wasn’t doing it.”
The revelation left his co-hosts and fellow Morning Live experts—Rav Wilding, Dr. Oscar Duke, Gary Rycroft, and Laura Pomfret—disappointed. Rav exclaimed, “Aw, come on!” while co-host Sara Davies asked, “Are you sure?” Jones had actually been in Cardiff to attend the launch of Cinderella, the upcoming pantomime set to run at the New Theatre in Cardiff this Christmas, told Hello!.
He will be reprising his role as Prince Charming, a character he first played in Guildford in 2007. Speaking to WalesOnline, Gethin shared his excitement about returning to the stage, saying, “I absolutely loved it—it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my career. I never thought I’d get a chance to do another one, but I think the stars aligned this year.”
Although he won’t be in Gavin and Stacey, fans of Gethin can still look forward to seeing him on Morning Live as he balances his presenting duties with his pantomime role. The 46-year-old presenter expressed his happiness about returning home for the holidays, stating, “Morning Live is based in Manchester, and it is a trek to Cardiff, so getting back to see family and friends is not always easy… I thought it would be amazing to be home and be around at Christmas.”
Gethin has always spoken highly of his family, particularly his sister Mererid, a pediatric physiotherapist. In a 2021 interview with Yours Magazine, he called her his hero, saying, “She does everything with such grace and hard work.”
