A former KGB officer has made a staggering accusation, claiming that US President Donald Trump was recruited as a Russian asset more than 40 years ago under the codename “Krasnov.” The explosive allegation surfaced on Facebook by Alnur Mussayev, a former KGB officer, who stated that Trump was pegged as a potential Soviet informant in 1987 during Mussayev’s time in the KGB’s 6th Department, which focused on recruiting businessmen from capitalist countries.
The 71-year-old Mussayev posted a bombshell statement on social media, revealing: “In 1987, I worked in the 6th Department of the KGB of the USSR in Moscow. The most important area of work of the 6th Department was the acquisition of spies and sources of information from businessmen of capitalist countries. It was in that year that our Department recruited the 40-year-old businessman from the USA, Donald Trump, nicknamed Krasnov”, reported the Daily Star.
Mussayev’s claims were quickly bolstered by a viral Twitter thread from user @anthony7andrews, who insisted: “Now that it’s been revealed that Trump has been a Russian asset for 40 years named Krasnov by the FSB, I will write a simple thread of various pieces of information that solidifies the truth of everything I’ve written. Please read and share”, according to the Mirror.
Despite the viral attention these allegations have garnered, former intelligence chief Sir David Omand cast doubt on their credibility. When asked about the claims on LBC’s Andrew Marr show, Omand dismissed the accusations, stating: “No, no. I say that largely because if there had been a real smoking gun then I think it would have surfaced in the years since that story first came out – and there are enough pro-Ukrainian people around in Russia, that it would have surfaced.” He further stated that he did not give the allegations any credence, describing them as “a bit conspiratorial.”
While the intelligence community has long speculated about the KGB’s interest in recruiting prominent Western figures, particularly from business circles, hard evidence to support Mussayev’s claims remains elusive. Rumors continue to circulate that Trump’s KGB file is under the watch of Russian officials close to President Vladimir Putin, though no definitive proof has been produced, as reported by The Mirror.
As these claims continue to generate intrigue and speculation, the lack of conclusive evidence leaves many questioning their validity.
