Devastated Dad Mourns 6-Month-Old Baby Killed in ‘Horror Movie’ Crash in Car Park

Sophia Kelemen, a six-month-old girl, tragically died from severe brain injuries after a heartbreaking accident in Tenby, Pembroke shire, on January 2, reported by the Daily Mail. The young family had been on holiday and were preparing to return to Manchester when tragedy struck. Sophia was in a pram when the incident occurred, and her father Alex Kelemen, 27, described the devastating moment as “a horror movie.”

Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Kelemen said, “Just before we got to the car, the horror movie started. It’s hard to know and to think about what happened. It’s been horrific to see our little daughter being in that bed and go through all those procedures.”

Sophia was airlifted to a hospital in Cardiff where she underwent surgery for her injuries but sadly passed away the next day. “Everybody loved her, all of our friends. She’s always going to live in my heart. I know she’s going to be watching me every day,” Mr. Kelemen added.

The family, originally from Romania, has been struggling with how to explain the tragedy to their five-year-old son, Lucas. “The biggest pain I’ve had was explaining to him that God loved his sister more than we did and God gave Sophia a brand new set of wings so that she could fly over him and protect him,” Mr. Kelemen said.

An inquest revealed that Sophia’s cause of death was due to a head injury sustained from a road traffic collision. Coroner’s officer Carrie Sheridan informed the court, “Police received a report from the ambulance that a collision has occurred between a single motor vehicle and a child’s pram.” The incident occurred on the ground floor of a multi-story car park in Tenby.

The inquest hearing was adjourned for further police investigations. In the wake of this tragic loss, the family has launched fundraising efforts to bring Sophia’s body back to Romania for burial. Two GoFundMe campaigns—one in English and the other in Romanian—have been set up to assist with funeral costs and the repatriation flight.

Sophia’s aunt, Adriana Kelemen, paid tribute to her niece, describing her as “the cutest and most adorable girl.” She recalled, “They were on a short break in Wales with family friends… It happened in the car park. The pram Sophia was in was destroyed.”

Flaviu Naghi, 33, from Wigan, is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on February 7, charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a license or insurance.
