Grieving Family’s Heartbreaking 11-Word Tribute to ‘Cheeky’ 13-Year-Old Found Dead at School

Neath, Jan 31, 2025 — A devastating loss has struck the Neath community as the body of 13-year-old Connor Slade was discovered on the grounds of Melin Primary School in South Wales early Wednesday morning. The tragic event has prompted the immediate closure of the school, with South Wales Police launching an investigation that is “not being treated as suspicious,” according to authorities.

Connor Slade, though only 13, was found on the primary school premises, raising questions as he was beyond primary school age. The young boy’s untimely death has left the entire community in mourning, with many struggling to comprehend the loss of such a vibrant and beloved child, reported by the Mirror.

In the wake of the tragedy, Connor’s aunt, Rebecca Morgan, took to Facebook to express the profound grief felt by his family and friends. “If love could have saved him he would be here forever!” she wrote, capturing the deep sorrow surrounding Connor’s passing. Her heartfelt message continued, “I never knew a community could be so heartbroken. Connor have really left a huge hole in a lot of people’s lives! He was a fun loving out going cheeky little chap! He has sooo many friends left behind and we really do send our love out to each and everyone of them. Please just remember him as the wicked boy he was. If love could have saved him he would be here forever! But it’s only goodbye for now – Forever13.”

To support the grieving family, Rebecca has established a GoFundMe page aimed at covering funeral costs, alleviating financial burdens during this difficult time. “Tragically and suddenly my sister lost her 13 year old son Connor Slade,” she wrote on the fundraiser. “As you can imagine for her and all of his friends and family we are heart broken. I am posting this fund me page for any help we can raise to help towards his funeral cost to give him the best send off possible without my sister and Connor’s father having worry about costs. I want this to be the least of their worries and be able to grieve him. We appreciate anything that can be donated. Thank you. Connor Slade – Forever13.”

Acting Headteacher Danielle Harris addressed the school community, assuring parents and guardians that support services would be available. “We want to inform you that Melin Primary School (infant and junior sites) will reopen tomorrow (Thursday 30th January) following a tragic incident that occurred on the school grounds in the early hours of this morning. We understand that recent events have been distressing, and we want to assure you that the wellbeing of our students, staff and wider school community remains our top priority. Support services will be available at the school to assist anyone in need. If your child requires additional support please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.”

Neath Port Talbot Council has also expressed its sorrow and offered assistance. “We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news and our thoughts go out to the family, South Wales Police officers are currently investigating and the council will offer any possible assistance,” a council spokesman stated.

The community of Neath is rallying together to support Connor’s family during this unimaginably difficult period. As investigations continue, the focus remains on providing comfort and aid to those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
