Family Honors Young Mother Lost to Asthma by Running Marathons in Her Memory

Amy Greenwood, a 22-year-old mother of two from Skelmersdale, West Lancashire, tragically passed away after a severe asthma attack at her home. Found unconscious by her fiancé, despite immediate CPR efforts and emergency medical care, Amy sadly did not recover and her life support was turned off the following day. This heartbreaking event occurred on October 21, 2022, marking a profound loss for her family.

Amy, who worked at Asda, had struggled with asthma her entire life, often requiring hospital visits. However, none of her previous asthma episodes compared to the one that took her life. Her fiancé, Keegan Boylan, discovered her in a critical condition after hearing a disturbing sound at their home. Despite paramedics restoring her heartbeat, she was ultimately placed on life support at Wigan Hospital, where she later passed away, shared by Yahoo.

Her brother, James, deeply affected by the loss of his sister, described Amy as not just a sibling but his best friend. To cope with his grief, James turned to marathon running, a physical challenge that has helped him process his sorrow. He ran the London Marathon, fueled by memories of his sister and the closeness they shared, which included family outings and holidays with Amy’s children, Bailey and Orla.

Determined to keep his sister’s memory alive and support a cause close to their hearts, James completed the marathon and plans to continue running. He is motivated by a special token, a tag bearing Amy’s name that he attaches to his running shoes, reminding him of her spirit and strength during difficult moments in the race.

Keegan, now raising Bailey and Orla, has joined James in his marathon endeavors, sharing in the emotional and physical journey. Both are committed to raising awareness and funds for Asthma + Lung UK, aiming to support others affected by asthma and to honor Amy’s memory.

Amy’s family, through their resilience and dedication, hope to ensure that her children grow up knowing how wonderful their mother was. The family’s involvement in marathon running not only serves as a personal tribute but also helps them to advocate for asthma awareness, turning their personal tragedy into a force for communal support and change.
