Eamonn Holmes’ Dig at Ruth Langsford and Nigel Farage Booed at TRIC Awards ‘Justice Has Not Been Done’

The TRIC Awards provided plenty of drama yesterday, with some unexpected names picking up big awards and controversial moments that kept guests talking.

Guests, including some of the biggest names in TV, packed into the Grosvenor House Hotel, where they enjoyed a luxurious three-course meal while mingling with colleagues, showbiz friends, and industry professionals.

One of the most talked-about moments of the evening was Eamonn Holmes’ first public appearance since his split from Ruth Langsford. Holmes skipped the red carpet but took to the stage after his GB News breakfast show with Isabel Webster won Best News Show. In his speech, he appeared to make a subtle dig at Langsford.

Reflecting on his challenging year, Holmes said, “Thank you very much for this award. We were up against world-class programs, and that makes it a little bit more special. Sometimes we all think about imposter syndrome. I went for an operation a year and a half ago and it went wrong. I got two things in my back that I didn’t want.” Many believe his comment was a reference to his split from Langsford. The pair confirmed their separation earlier this year, stating, “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.” They share one son named Jack.

Ken Bruce was another big winner, collecting all three of the awards he was nominated for. On stage, he took a jab at the BBC after his dramatic exit from the broadcaster. “I started 47 years ago this month, it’s amazing I’m still standing up here. It’s been an absolute joy over the age of 60 to reinvent myself as something new. Now I’m looking forward to doing something else, maybe standing as President of the United States. It’s lovely to see Scotland winning a trophy!” he joked.

The night wasn’t as smooth for Nigel Farage, despite winning Best News Presenter. Farage was met with boos from the audience as he made his way to the stage, flanked by bodyguards. Unfazed, he quipped, “It’s a bit like a wrestling event, isn’t it! Those that boo clearly don’t get what a competition is.” He also mentioned his upcoming mission on July 4th, hinting at a new endeavor.

Multiple TV and radio stars took jabs at Farage throughout the night. Wynne Evans, known for GoCompare and Celebrity MasterChef, made a dig at Farage while presenting the Live Event category. The cast of Coronation Street also threw shade, with David Neilson (Roy Cropper) commenting on a “whiff of sulphur” on stage, referring to Farage. Dame Maureen Lipman also quipped, “See you in Rwanda, Nigel,” as she left the stage.

Farage, surrounded by security guards, made his way through the event with heightened protection following a recent incident where he was hit with a milkshake outside a Wetherspoons pub. The 25-year-old woman responsible was later charged with assault.

The TRIC Awards proved to be a memorable night filled with unexpected moments, sharp comments, and a mix of celebration and controversy.
