Healthy Dad’s Stomach Pain Turns Into Devastating Terminal Diagnosis

A seemingly “fit and healthy” father, Stewart Phimister, has been given just months to live after stomach pain led to the discovery of incurable cancer. The 40-year-old BAE rigger, and father to two-year-old Darcie, visited his GP after experiencing dull pain in his right side and stomach that “didn’t feel right.” Initially prescribed medication and recommended blood tests and physiotherapy, Stewart pushed for a scan earlier this month but was told he might have to wait six to eight weeks, with no guarantee of approval.

The pain worsened, prompting Stewart to visit an out-of-hours practice, where he was sent for an ultrasound under suspicion of gallstones. Tragically, further tests revealed lesions on his liver and a mass behind his pancreas, reported by the Daily Record.

Last Thursday, Stewart, accompanied by his mother and partner Alannah, received the devastating news. Alannah, 27, told Glasgow Live: “It felt like a nightmare and someone had to wake us up. Stewart had been complaining of the pain for months… The surgeons explained that it was really bad and said he had cancer, which was incurable because it had spread so much.”

Doctors estimate Stewart has just three to six months to live, with palliative chemotherapy as the only treatment option. Alannah shared, “They think it is primary liver cancer which has spread to his left kidney. They said it was a very rare case because of his age… He is such a fit guy and doesn’t look unwell.”

The heartbreaking diagnosis has left the family trying to explain the situation to Darcie, who turns three soon. Alannah added, “Stewart wants to find ways to explain somehow that when dad’s not here, he will be in the sky. It is heartbreaking. This wee, vulnerable, beautiful girl doesn’t have a clue what is going on.”

In response, Stewart’s best friend John Beattie launched a fundraiser to help the family create lasting memories. The campaign, which has already raised nearly £9,000, states: “Stewart has had to stop working and now he wants to make the most of the time he has left with his young family. Let’s ease the financial pressure and help Stewart make as many memories as he can with Alannah and Darcie.”

Alannah expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support: “Stewart is only 40, and there is still so much he wants to do. We are going to make sure we do it.” She hopes their story will inspire others to advocate for their health and seek answers when something feels wrong.
